On a perspective of health care

Jim has presented to University level students entering various medical fields on his experience as a patient in the medical system for nearly 18 months. He discusses what its like to be a patient with a life changing injury and the emotions of fear, anxiety, depression, and anger that you go through as a patient and critically injured person.

He teaches those entering the health care profession the difference between caring and being a caregiver, and the importance of needing the first in order to succeed at the second.

To Elementary School Children

Jim has also presented to a variety of elementary school children and teaches them that just because he is in a wheelchair does not mean he is not a normal person. With a witty sense of humour, and a willingness to share he teaches children to see those with disabilities as equal, and to stop and say hello - not avert your gaze when passing someone in a wheelchair.

With fun demonstrations of how he moves his wheelchair and operates his phone all with his head he demonstrates how he interacts with the world and some of the challenges faced by those with disabilities.

In the community

Jim also presents to a variety of community groups - everyone from public service such as firefighting and paramedics to Rotary Clubs and social clubs.

He tailors every presentation to suit the audience and teach them valuable lessons in facing adversity, and continuing to “work the problem”. From day to day struggles, to mental health issues Jim connects with people on a human level and is sure to leave your group inspired.
